I think this is sub-family Muscinae, but I don't suppose anyone will be able to say more

I just thought the northern hemisphereans on the forum would enjoy the rather exotic substrate, which is
Banksia coccinea Scarlet Banksia. The photo was taken by my father in the Stirling Ranges, Western Australia, 2006 (spring time).

My father will be soooooo impressed (as am I, come to that!)
It is certainly what I would call a bush fly, but I thought bush flies were actually about 4-5 different species, and probably 2 different families and I never really got to grips with exactly what species
