Tachinid of some sort, I think. Theo? Chris?

Paul, I understand the first guess.
However, the head profile does not look Tachinidae at all.
Maybe some quaint group, for instance in Wagneriini.
This picture was taken on 20-2-2007 ???
That must be a really good clue.
If it is Tachinid, it must be quite - very special.
Has it been collected ?

Yeah, I agree with Theo ... and it doesn't help that we can't see any idea of scale. It might be one of those small Spring species with slightly golden/green shiny bodies. The head doesn't look right though - I don't like the red eyes and the shape of the gena. Certainly would be nice to see some different angles - or even a specimen!

other side of this fly

Sarcophagidae, I think.... but there is some wrong... is this the same fly (comparing with the first)? Abdomen, for example doesn?t fit the other, neither the many bristles..
if it is the same fly ... in the first photo, the light wiped out the usual pattern in abdomen (as we can see clearly in the second photo).
I can be wrong... let?s go hear expertise opinion.

Looks like there isn't an angle in vein-M, which would suggest that this isn't a tachinid. It's possible but it doesn't look like any of the tach species I know without a bend in vein-M.
