This fly was about 3-4 mm in size. It was caught as it flew out of the compost bin. Again, thank you in advance for your help in identification.

Looks like a male Anthomyia punctipennis (Anthomyiidae) - this is the only anthomyiid we (Australia) have with a "drab" appearance and wings marked as such. Apparently this species is exotic, being of South American origin. It's now also found in New Zealand and South Africa.
