On birch exudate. Size approx. 1.8 mm. Of other flies,
Anisopodidae (incl. mating pairs) were notably numerous.
Something like
D. subobscura maybe?

A species of the
subobscura group is correct. Any chance you can enhance the right fore tarsus somewhat from the original images (sharpen). The number of teeth in the combs should decide whathe it is
helvetica (in my recollection most likely considering habitat/behaviour) or
subsilvestris.

Paul, I examined specimen. 6 teeth (or 7 if first (basal) teeth is double).

Is that in both combs? There are two, one on the metatarsus, one on the second tarsal segment.

I'm sorry. Yes, two combs, both with 6-7 teeth.
