Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Help with fly ID

Hi, i've got an image of a fly that i was wondering if anybody could offer an ID, or even genus/family?

The image was taken last July in the lake district area of the UK, not far from Meathop Moss. It was feeding/sunning itself on an umbellifer along a shaded woody lane.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Psilidae, Loxocera sp. I cannot say more because of lack of details.

And it is customary to have replies in the forum so we all know what we have seen. Wink

Hi Paul,

Thats great, thanks very much. To be honest i've been having difficulties with this one for almost a year, so genus is fantastic! I don't know if it would help any, the specimen was ~9-10 mm from abdomen tip to head. Would that rule in or out any of the UK species?
