Hello,
here is a quite large fly (about 11 mm) from our garden in SW Sweden today, with long hairs on arista and bare eyes. Thankful for help!

Many thanks! I first thought it was a Brachyopa - but it didnĀ“t fit so well to any of these. Now I understand why. I live in the countryside with some older decidous forests in the neighborhood where I suppose the fly lives.

Yes, the species is associated with aspen (
Populus tremula
). Larvae live in rotting sap in recently fallen aspen logs.
