Does anybody know what this is?
I took the photo on 3.May.2007
Size 10mm.

Microdon sp. (Syrphidae) larva
The fused posterior spiracles (this brown tube) is typical for Syrphidae.

Where did you find it? Was still near an ants' nest?

Penti, which was the substrate where you found them? Seems something cribriform-rusty.

I found them beneath the bark of this rotten pine stump.

Perfect! I think they pupated really near the nest.
