The problem with Anthomyiidae is not that species-level identification would be unusually difficult. What is problematic is the fact that there are very few really obvious clues for splitting them to genera, which means they must be treated as a daunting mass of similar-looking species. There's no easy middle step between family- ja species level.
From a practical point of view the whole family forms a single cluster of over 300 species. Few of us have to inclination to learn all the minure (but usually well-defined) characters separating the species by heart
