Denmark, Sydals, near Høruphav, about 15 msm, coastal region, in a hedgerow of an uncultivated little meadow, Outsidefoto: kuv, 18th of May 2014. Right or is it P. bimaculata? Please help.

Hello Kuv,

The short answer to you question? Pipiza sp. Pfft

The long answer? The species in the noctiluca group are (or were) of uncertain status. Bartsch 2009 only lists only P. noctiluca as a species complex of uncertain status for Sweden. "Vujic et. al. 2013 Systematic of Pipizini and Taxonomy of European Pipiza Fallen" review the European species yet again. I have not had time to study the article with my collection in hand and hear the opinion of other Syrphidologists. It can be found here: http://www.resear...rphidae%29

Hello Ectemnius,

thank you for your very good information - I think in consideration of the poor pic I had to be satisfied with "Pipiza sp." (I partly read your quoted article ... for me it's very difficult to understand).

Greetings
