is Melanostoma scalare in both cases correct?

Hello Lennart,

Seeing the female in the above picture I'd say M. mellinum on account of the shiny face. That same specimen is btw a victim of the fungus Entomophthera.

Aha, a fungus - I always wondered why those flies look so very strange! Thanks for clearing this up!
