Thread subject: Diptera.info :: ID help, please?

I photographed this one today on bramble leaves beside a canal, in the West Midlands. Can anyone hazard a guess as to its identity?

What? No replies? Have I stumped you all with this one? I would have thought it was a fairly common one, this (but then again, what do I know?)

My guess would be anthomyid, but since that does not count for much, you better wait till someone else comes up with something better.
I do not think you stumped us all, it is just that this is not the easiest group to identify from pictures (as a rule) so you need to wait until someone knowledgeble passes this thread.

Thanks for that, Paul! Maybe Chris will have a better idea, this one being from the UK ...

I would guess Muscidae, possibly
