Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Couple of small Syrphids

Hello!
I have never seen such flies like this couple of only 7-8 mm long ones in our garden yesterday (Ostwestfalen/Germany). After searching a little bit I think, they could belong to genus
Paragus. Is that correct? Thanks!

Ah, thanks! I had an
Eumerus here in the garden already on May 28, but that lacked the distinct thorax stripes:

if you look closely you can see has 2 stripes on the thorax too. the different angle makes them not that clear and in old specimens this dust stripes can become less clear too.

Yes, but quite faint. I was not sure whether that indicated another species/genus or just a worn condition.

for determination to species level you should examine the legs very carefully and maybe the male genitalia also.

Yes, I have read that
Eumerus cannot be determined after a photo (but that's all I have). There are 16 species here in Germany according to "Entomofauna Germanica".
