Two robber flies from Crete (different individuals).
I first thought they might be Machimus sp., but according to FE Machimus is not present on the isle of Crete.
Any suggestions?
Location: Mixorouma (Rethimno province), Crete. Alt.: approx. 200m
Thanks in advance,

Thanks Reinoud.
As far as I can see Tolmerus is now considered a separate genus.
I found some pictures of T. pyragra on robberflies.info and –in my perception- the form of the hypopygium seems to match.
Only FE stays unrelenting: no Tolmerus in Crete. However, they report it present in mainland Greece, on Samos and on Cyprus. It looks like Crete is almost surrounded with T. pyragra, so maybe some adventurous specimens have taken a chance……

Looking at the front legs, or what is left of them, this must be an adventurous specimen! FE is based on literature, if no one ever mentioned the species in an official document...... Only two species are listed for Crete!!! This is a joke of course...
