Fairly sure this largeish (12-15mm?) hoverfly is Senaspis, not sure which.

In weedy growth (mostly blackjacks) at the edge of hippo-cropped lawn on the Zambian banks of Zambezi, near confluence with Kafue, Lusaka Province, Zambia.

Yes, its a male Senaspis sp., could be S. melanthysana or close, but that's a guess....

Thanks for confirmation of genus, and I'm sure your guess will provide a solid starting point if I get around to chasing this one any further.

It is common in this region ? Is it possible to send me some specimen to try to identify it easier ?

Hi, sorry for delayed response. I've only seen them in the one spot, but they were fairly numerous. If I'm back there and see more, I'll try to nab one for you.
