Hello everyone,

which family does this specimen belong to? I think I've seen it before, but just can't find it.

Many thanks! Lennart

2016-03-13, Northern Germany, SH, garden, leaf litter. Length about 9 mm.

I think it is an Elateridae larva

Uh, that's interesting! Thanks for your answer. I've found some elaterid larvae sometimes, but they were always yellow / orange without those appendices - but why not, and after all I don't have any better idea Wink

No, sorry, I made a terrible mistake; the color has misled me. No Elateridae. It is closer to a Limoniidae or the Pediciidae genus Ula for I see at least 3 blackish anal lobes. Did you collected it? Some details of the anal lobes are missing to be sure. Or do you have some more photo's? The color is a bit strange, was it alive?

Doesn't matter - so this stays interesting Wink. I just had to read about Pediciidae - I've never met them.

Unfortunately I don't have any more detailed pictures. I found a second specimen, same place & same time, just 2 mm longer, but you can see even less here, only the head is visible a bit better. Who knows, maybe this helps...
Seems to be very similar.

They both were alive.

Someone moved this thread to "other insects..." - so it's no dipteran larva again? Wink

It was moved before atylotus corrected himself. Back into Diptera larvae now. Smile
