Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Psilota sp. male (ID by Piluca Álvarez); SW Spain

A very hairy little fly with the looks of Lonchaeidae, but the wings don't seem to fit.

André, that is a Syrphid
My bet is on a male
Psilota anthracina. However, not my area of expertise
Better wait for more opinions...

Hi Pilu,
Didn't see that one coming!!!
So, Wednesday, instead of 2 new genera of
Syrphidae, I have 3. And just in a couple of minutes, and on the same flower.
Muchísimas gracias!

Yes, that is a male Psilota.
Recently, several new species have been described (see Smit & Zeegers and Smit & Vujic), so it will be very challenging to get an ID on this male. Get Psilota in the title and wait for John Smit (or send him an email !).

Very interesting indeed.
I will leave the title in "Psilota sp." and if there is no answer today, tomorrow I will send John an e-mail.
Bedankt, Theo!!!
