Photographed in Cape Town, South Africa this morning. Could this be Paragus haemorrhous? Around 5mm.

Thank you

Philip

Genus is correct. I am not certain you would have haemorrhous in South Africa, though.

Hello Philip ! OK for the genus Paragus. But I don't know if exist a key for Paragus species of South Africa. It will need further researchs.

I am a student in biology, and I need to have more hoverflies specimens (from all over the world; and South africa is pretty interesting, I think) in my personnal reference collection. Indeed, I want to become a researcher in Syrphidae.

It would be possible to send me hoverflies samples in alcohol ?

Thanks in advance,
Valentin
