Hi All. I found this fly with its striped abdomen curved while feeding at bramble flowers in lowland meadows, glos, UK at the weekend. Can someone please ID this, at least to genus level. Thank you. Peter.
A Conopidae of the genus Sicus. Brownish flies with yellow head and big eyes. Only females can be definitely identified. Yours is a male. The most common species is Sicus ferrugineus. The other species are very rare.
