Hello
I found this little fly (5-6 mm) in NE of France (Distroff, 57925) the 30/06/2016
I think it's Scenopinus fenestralis. Male or female ?
Thank you
Louis

Kelsey's key (1969) is only moderately helpful als it provides a rather crude key to the species and that does not include several more recently described species. It is Obvious that the wings are not entirely hyaline but have some darkening on the anterior half and along the posterior margin. Does this lead one to 'wings hyaline' or to 'wings brown'? Anyway, some characters are not visible, but there is a median groove on the frons. This fits with
lesinensis (only known from Austria) but that should have the halter nob creamy below (that fits) and red-brown above (impossible to confirm from these images but it lookis as if there might be a darker part on it). Would you care to send the specimen?

Hello Paul, thank you for your answer.
I can send you the specimen, but it had "suffered", only a part on one wing. Where, what address ?
I join a photo of the halter in dorsal view

Hello Paul

Sorry, work and holidays intervened. First examination also seems to be in favour of
lesinensis but I need to prepare the abdomen as it has become very flat. Hopefully today...

Hello Paul
Does the microscope given a specific species ?

Preparing
Scenopinus was something new to me but it turned out quite well. In Kelsey's it indeed results in
lesinensis . Now I need to rule out the species described by Carles-Tolrá.

Hello Paul
Can you confirm the species S. lesinensis after comparison with the species described by Carles-Tolrá.
Thank you
Louis

LoL, I had not located Carles-Tolrá's publication yet as our library does not carry the journal. Can I simply find it online!
His species are both in a different species group so consider the identification confirmed.

Hello Paul
Thank you for your confirmation, so finally Scenopinus lesinensis (a new species for France).
The publication is here :

Hi lweit,
The link: http://www.entomologica.es/cont/publis/boletines/1051.pdf is not working anymore and the website is very difficult to navigate. The 2016 pdf of the bulletin have nothing about Scenopinidae in them. Can you find the paper?
Kind regrads,
Elias
