Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Big-headed fly, no idea
#1
Last weekend I found this fly at the Bergherbos near Zeddam, Netherlands. It was appr. 8 mm long. Most striking feature is the relatively large head. Up to now I have no idea about genus or even family (perhaps Tachinidae?).
I would be very grateful for any help!

Sarcophagidae - Miltogrammatinae. Being relatively large and big-headed, it could be
Miltogramma. Then again, I am *really* not a specialist of these flies.

Looks like (and knowing the locality: should be) Miltogramma punctatum, but let's wait for Liekele

O.k., thanks so far, Kahis and Theo!

Given locality, this is most likely Miltogramma punctata.
But the pictures do not exclude several other Miltogramma species such as Miltogramma rutilans (very unlikely, because not yet reported from the Netherlands).

Thanks for your opinion on this one, Liekele. I will keep it at
Miltogramma cf punctata then.
