In Japan I saw those big flies (length about 18, 19mm) at several occasions. Mostly near gardens or rice fields with some plant waste. (This may be by accident.) I don't have an idea, to which family (genus, species?) they belong, and would appreciate help.

I think this is Ptecticus tenebrifer, I came acorss this species only a few times while in Japan.

It is ineteresting in this fly that the mid tarsi are light and the foretarsi and hindtarsi are darker. Also the somewhat translucent part of the abdomen is visible.

Thank you for all the answers. After looking at the pictures at espok.net/gallery/Sarginae I also think it is Ptecticus tenebrifer / Sarginae.
