This should be a Brachypalpus, a bee mimic whose larvae live in dead wood. I suppose B. valgus might be the right species (compare http://hmyzsloven...index.html), as the last tergite seems to bear black hairs.

More likely Brachypalpus laphriformis, as the frons is dusted. In valgus the frons is shiny all over.

Ah - the frons of the female in http://www.dipter...d_id=53297 is more shiny indeed. So is possibly the photo by Karol Ox (link in #3) also B. laphriformis?
