Hi,
I found this mâle in central Bulgaria.
I am tempted to make it a
Machimus setibarbus, but I found out
M modestus has similar genitalia (looking at this picture:
http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=34957) and couldn't find more information about the latter.
What do you think? Do you know how to differentiate those two species?

I caught this specimen if more informations are needed, but specimen is in bad condition.

The whole genus needs a revision and in particular this group. Medium to very large species with black legs. caliginosus, cyanopus, (intermedius), modestus, setibarbus, thoracicus. Because this last one has white hair on the frons (according to Engel 1930) this one could be that species. But i am afraid we can't be sure. Species in the link probably belongs to another group, annulipes etc (because of the red base of the tibiae..)

I hope you are very patient
I wrote genus but meant genera ie Tolmerus, Neoepitriptus, maybe more...... It is an immense task to check all literature, type specimens spread around....etc....
You need time......... more people interested?????
