Thread subject: Diptera.info :: aquatic Stratiomyidae > Odontomyia ornata

Hello,
is someone here able to identify the genus?
I hope Stratiomyidae is correct.
Length 30 mm.

I think this is the final instar of Oplodontha viridula for it seems as if there is a hairbrush at the ventral side of the head and the habitus and hairs on the body doesn't fit Odontomyia or Stratiomys.

Great, many thanks.
I add a ventral picture of the head.

I just came across a species account of O. viridula in an old field guide (1998) for flies, which says the length of the larvae would measure 14 to 17 mm - but mine was twice as long, 30 mm.
Now what is to say about that? Just an outdated information or is this probably not O. viridula but some other stratiomyid?

You're right. Size matters. 30 mm is o.k. for Odontomyia ornata

Great, I've never seen an adult of O. ornata. Thanks!
