* locality - Silgueiros - Viseu - PORTUGAL
* date - 2007.08.21
* size - 1 cm (big fly)
* habitat - open land
* substrate - on Mentha sp. flowers.
or it could be Conops... i must see better the wing venation.
EDIT----> Title changed from "Conopidae - Physocephala sp. ?" to "Conopidae - Physocephala chrysorrhoea" and then finally to "Conopidae - Physocephala vittata"

Conopids - wonderful looking flies. This year there are very few of them in the UK because of the awful weather.

Thanks to all. This really fits to be P. chrysorrhoea (Meigen 1824).
Gerard you must change in gallery the name of your Physocephala...
It must be
Physocephala chrysorrhoea. Not Physocephala
chrysorhoae.

This one is correct, but the other one is variegata according to Seguy.

it seems that the abdomen on this one is more yellowish than the other Physocephala..
The same question: why not P. chrysorrhoea for this one? Sorry for the questions, but I like to know the reasons.

And in this way, next time I avoid the errors.
