Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Balloon belly Syrphid :-)

Hello!
I have posted these photos already in my forum, but got no reply yet, so I try it here, too.
These only 3-4 mm long Syrphids (?) were visiting 
Angelica sylvestris flowers in the forest two days ago (Ostwestfalen/Germany). Seem to be more than full with eggs 

. Could it be 
Sphegina sp.? Thanks in advance!

i think is something close to 
Sphegina, or even 
Sphegina.
maybe this helps you,

Yes, indeed it is a female Sphegina, and it's very difficult to get it to species level. My GUESS would be a female Sphegina siberica, but that's just a guess!

Thank you very much! I had already read that the genus 
Sphegina is a difficult one. But genus level is ok, it's again a new one for me

Welcome,
here in romania in montane area me and 
amalia_raluca have found 
Sphegina very frequent on 
Stachys sylvatica.
she collected some, i made some photos so maybe some will come in the gallery with ID.
