A largish fly (12 mm approx.), which somehow I believe is a male Cheilosia sp. Can anyone comment and or complete ?

Sorry Amalia, but no, not chrysocoma. It's a spring species, and furthermore it also has long dense red hairs on the thorax. Also it is not as big as this one.
This one is Cheilosia canicularis! There are however similar species, like Cheilosia himantopus, but that one is a spring species. Third possibility would be Cheilosia orthotricha, but I think that one would be a bit smaller and not that shiny! Real details for separation are only visible under Microscope!
