please help to distinguish between
Brachypalpoides lentus and Chalcosyrphus piger.
the fly was about 8-10mm,
it was found in Germany, Bavaria, Nesselwang, near to border of Austria, altitude 1550m, 15. 6. 2018

Brachypalpoides lentus has the black tip of the abdomen, while the abdomen of Chalcosyrohus piger is enitrely red. Unfortunately, it is not clearly visible from your picture.

we have a look in the Syrphidae-Gallerie and mean to see
that our fly has a shadow of black tip of the abdomen,
but as you say it is not very clearly.

It's a male Chalcosyrphus piger. The most striking difference with Brachypalpoides in pictures like this is the thickness of the hind femur. In brachypalpoides the hind femur is much more slender as it is in piger. Find brachypalpoides pictures and compare and you'll see what I mean.
