I wouldn't want to call the wingpattern 'black', but rather faint brown

But you're right, this species is rather variable in its wingpattern, normally it should have a very faint pattern at the top, with a well pronounced pterostigma. But the pattern at the top may be absent. Nevertheless it's quite easy to recognise by its general body colour, being yellowish grey.
