Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Gorgeous black syrphidic
#1
This beautiful fly is about 10mm long and was found today 150 km south of Lisbon, near the sea. According to the false margin in the wing venation I would say it is a syrphidic, but the colour of the wings and the back legs are so strange that I'm realy not sure.
Thank you,

Tachinidae. Check out the "feathers" on the hind legs!

But
Trichopoda pennipes is supposed to have orange abdomen, not black

This fly is extremely variable, so it is NOT a surprise to have black abdomen.

It is really Trichopoda pennipes. I would like to know if you caught the specimen...
I spotted this fly once time.

Sorry, I never catch the little guys. But I'll tell you where it was: Porto Covo, jardim da pra?a principal

Porto Covo is very nice. I found there the Latrodectus spider!
