Nikita, I presume you mean the halteres?
I've never seen such an animal before; just found out that it is a kind of cranefly. Your picture is much better that the other ones I could find on internet.

Yes Louis, I meaned halteres, I didn't find English word.
For example, in Moscow city there are Culex pipiens without halteres. They fly soundless but like "ivory". So I thought that it prooved that halteres realy used for fly balance. But Chionea without wings and with halteres is contre this explanation.

Nikita, here's another one from Moscow region.
Found among fallen leaves (Quercus).
Pictures were made on Oct.30, 2005, Naro-Fominsk, Moscow region, Russia.
I'm not sure about number of segments in antennae, but it looks like there's 7 of them, so it might be Ch. lutescens.
