Few days ago, Israel.
I first was mistaken to this it is a Syrphidae fly but after a good look found it is actually a wasp.
Can anyone ID?

I can't see clearly enough but if the hairs have branches then it is a bee

Hello,
The specimen looks like
T. ramosus, drawn on page 342 of the 5th volume of Amiet et al. But there may be other species in the east-mediterranean region.

hey pierred,
there are several known sp. in Israel:
Thyreus hyalinatus
Thyreus ramosellus
Thyreus ramosus
Thyreus tricuspis
Thyreus truncatus
According to map distribution I think also possible to find:
Thyreus affinis
Thyreus elegans
Thyreus histrionicus
ramosus indeed looks like mine, but I don't know the keys for the other species. Do you know which sp. from the list are for sure not the one in my phoho?

Hello,
I still don't know how to use the key efficiently. I can't help you more on this.

Thyreus is one of the 'diffult' genera, even for the few specialists.
