Hi


I have some larvae to rear out. I am trying to rear them to see what fly can come out... Perhaps an uncooked meat is enough? They are Sarcophagidae/Calliphoridae/Muscidae larvae... Suggestions will be welcome.

i tend to use cat food in a pouch made of tin foil, which is placed on soil for pupation, all incased in a fly cage (or a polystyrine cup!!)

ok here are a few pics im out of tin foil so i used paper to make the pouch to contain food,

Erzinclioglu (1996) says most mammal meat is suitible for calliphorids apart from heart meat,

Cat litter (cheap non-clumping kind) would presumably also work as pupation medium.

these larvae are so odd in the food!

susan anything will do, as long as it allows them to get away from the food source and for a bit of piece and quiet,.
