Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Phaonia or Mydaea? --> Mydaea corni

Hello!

Another fly from yesterday night at the light (Ostwestfalen/Germany). This Muscid was relatively large, about a third larger than the also present Phaonia subventas (most numerous fly here at the moment). It resembles P. subventa a little bit in general appeareance, but has no orange but lightgrey abdomen. Could it be Phaonia errans? Or possibly a Mydaea species? Thanks in advance!

I see no strong postero-dorsald on apical third of t3, so not Phaonia. I think it is Mydaea corni.

Thanks a lot! I had taken a look at M. corni in the gallery, but was not sure. The male(s) there had more clearly orange scutellums (but I didn't know if that is relevant).
