Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Big mosquito

A quite large female mosquito, about 6mm long. Based on my modest sources, I would say it is a
Aedes punctor. The gallery doesn't help much with Culicidae.
Thanks,

PS - First guess is wrong. Because of banded legs might be
Culiseta annulata

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is C. annulata

Not
Cs. annulata.

This is
Culiseta longiareolata.

Excellent shot, showing
all the diagnostic features - please put it in the gallery.

PLease, enlighten us with those diagnostic features.

OK - palps short; pale scales on femora and tibiae giving spotted appearance; pale stripes on thorax producing a "lyre" pattern; conspicuous pale-scaled edge to costa.

Thank you, Tony, it is nice to have a mosquito expert. These biting critters don't seem to be very popular here!
