Hello,
I photographed this fly near the sea in Funtana Meiga (OR) in Sardinia, Italy, on June 24th 2019. I think it is a Chironomidae, but is it possible to identify the genus or species from these photos?
Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

John may have a better idea, but to me, this looks like a slightly teneral female Chironomini. I think I can make out impressions at the base of each tergite which are typical of
Glyptotendipes, but do wait for John before labelling it as such!

Could be
Glyptotendipes. The other character to look for is a retracted pronotum in lateral view, unfortunately blocked by the leg in the first picture. In most Chironomini the center of the pronotum projects forward with at most a small notch in the middle.
