Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Neomochtherus geniculatus? Tolmerus cowini or cingulatus
#1
I photographed this Asilidae near the little village of Condove in Susa Valley, Piedmont (Italy) at 350 mt above sea level, on September 9th, 2018. Could it be
Neomochtherus geniculatus?

This is not N. geniculatus..... first impression would be Tolmerus cingulatus or cowini, but that doesn't feel right too.

Ok thanks! So it is not possible to determine even the genus, it isn't?

Just asking: what's wrong with Tolmerus cowini?

I'm also interested about it

In the first place it is very rare and not known from Italy. Sometimes cingulatus can be somewhat darker. To be sure a look at the femora in good light would help.

Great thanks! Unfortunately these are the only photos I have, I've tried to crop the first one but I'm afraid it is useless...

This is what a true cowini looks like: https://waarneming.nl/observation/69895445/
So, this could be it, but I would keep a cf and look for more specimens.

Great thanks! Apart from cingulatus and cowini, are there other
Tolmerus species that could be possible?

I don't think so......
