Hello
I found this Cheilosia in the Prealps (Switzerland), end august 2007 in a small wood.
I guess Ch. scutellata ...

Yes, could be, but from the angle of this picture it might be another species, namely Cheilosia soror!
Soror has (normally) a bright red thirdantennal segment, in scutellata it is brown to black. There are some more subtile differences, but as usual not visible on a picture. You don't have a frontal shot?
Otherwise it is female Cheilosia sp., ( soror/ scutellata)

No decent frontal view, I regret. But no bright red anntennae neither. Strange colour on the foto: brown to white instead of brown to black.???

Most likely soror (slightly more stout species), but as Gerard said... can't be sure on the basis of these pictures!

Ch. soror or scutellata - next year i'll find out (if they are again at the same place).
