Is it an Empis male?
With the colours of the legs and other criteria, can we go to the species?

Hello Liliane, this is probably the male Empis tesselata. The tibiae appear very light orange but this may be caused by the light.

The tibias do indeed appear to be dark orange, as do the basitarsals. And there is also a small dark orange spot at the apex of the femurs. As this dark orange colour is sometimes in the shade, sometimes in the light, I think it is real.
Does this oppose or confirm Empis tesselata?

I'm not absolutely sure if the orange apex of the femur is possible for tesselata - hopefully an expert will save us.

In the gallery I see Empis tesselata which have this orange spot at the apex of the femurs.

So it might not be a criteria for exclusion, nor for confirmation.
