Diptera from sow dung
During some work for our company (Gerard's and mine), we collected several samples of sow dung. From this dung we collected a number of Diptera species, which we will list here. If anyone has additions to this list from other localities, I will be glad to add them.

Found the sphaerocerid Crumomyia nigra (Meigen, 1830) in vast numbers in an Irish intensive pig farm. Data was Ireland: Co. Down,Larchfield J3058, R. Nash 16.vi.1987 piggery .
The swarms were a local problem.

I finally found more records. All this is very useful since there are now very large-scale pig farms in Ireland with consequent problems.

Sepsis fulgens Meigen, 1826 (Sepsidae)
Themira putris (Linnaeus, 1758) (Sepsidae)
Sepsis punctum (Fabricius, 1794) (Sepsidae)

All from the same piggery as Crumomyia nigra -Co. Down, Larchfield, J3058, R. Nash vi-viii.1987 and reared from pig dung.

A useful reference is Papp, L. 1974. Dipterological studies in some large-scale pig farms Acta agron.hung. 23:136-47, 3 figs, 2 tables.
