Minettia longipennis?
Michael Becker
I made this photo in summer near Kyoto. Could this be Minettia longipennis?

Thanks,
Michael

Well, this was considered to be M. longipennis. This is the most common Lauxaniid in the Kyoto area. However, the Lauxaniid fauna has been poorly described in Japan, and the number of species have increased threefold during the last couple of years. Also this Minettia has been split from M. longipennis, whihc has a Western Palearctic distribution. Unfortunately that is what I know. The Lauxaniidae guys in Japan did not respond to my letters a few years back. So probably better keep this as Minettia (Frendelia) sp.

It does give a slightly different impression than 'our' longipennis.

Thank you for your answers.
I will still try it in a japanese diptera forum, but probably I have to label the photos then as Minettia spec.
