Hello everyone !!! I pictured this specimen in my garden on 2023-05-06 and could measure it on pictures : 6,3mm. The ratio of length to width of third antennal segment is 1.64 so largely under 2x ! Can we ID this specimen ??? I think it is a Neoascia , perhaps Neoascia interrupta (Meigen, 1822) , male ? The transverse veins of the wings are spotted and I can see yellow spots on the tergites 2,3 and 4 ... In Belgium, Four species whose wings have darkened transverse veins. - Neoascia podagrica, - Neoascia interrupta, - Neoascia obliqua and - Neoascia unifasciata. If there are other, I would be happy to know ! Of those species only one has the third antennal segment with the ratio between length and width less than 2 : N. interrupta ! Steven Falk has album in Flickr : N. interrupta : https://www.flick...147899879/ N podagrica : https://www.flick...1638744863 Not only the spots on the tergites are different, but also the colour of the third antena's segment ... I put many pictures as I dont know which one could be the most diagnose... Can you help me ? Thank you for reading this post , comments or ID !!! Have a nice day, Didier Edited by Tetrao on 02-06-2023 08:43 |

Thank you very much Helge ! Why not N. interrupta with such markings and such ratio for the 3D antenna’s segment ? |

On the picture below I can see a yellow spot on the tergites 4 as on the tergites 2 and 3. Do you agree with me ? |

Hi Tetrao, I can only see two yellow spots (T2 & T3), the third is just a reflection of the flash light used. The third segment of the antenna looks elongated. Helge |

I don't use a flash light and this yellow spot appear on all pictures in dorsal or profil views ! I measured the third segment of the antenna : the ratio is 1,64 ! In all keys I could find and read they say : More then a ratio of 2 then go to ... N. podagrica and less then 2 go to ... N. interrupta. I measured this ratio on Steven Falk specimen : 1,48 ! Thank you very much for reading my post and commenting about your ID. Didier Here in the shadow ! Edited by Tetrao on 06-06-2023 08:33 |
