Hello, I have the following female Dolichopodidae from Lesvos, Greece. Using Grichanov 2007 I managed to identify the genus as Hercostomus and, using the key for the females, as H. exarticulatus. What do you believe? Below, I provide photos of the specimen, as well as the characters I used in the key: 1) Femora yellow. 2) Lower postocular setae light. 3) Antennae entirely black. 4) Fore tibia without median posteroventral seta. 5) Proboscis dark. 6) Wing veins R4+5 and M1+2 convergent, at least at apex. 7) Scutellum bare. 8) Metepimeron black. 9) Basal segment of antennal stylus not thickened at apex. |

It is not H. exarticulatus. There is a recently described species with similar characters. Unfortunately, its female was poorly described. Hercostomus thraciensis Kechev et Negrobov, 2015: Acta Zoologica Bulgarica 67 (2): 200. Type locality: Bulgaria: Basha site, northwest of the town of Chirpan, 148 m. Palaearctic: Bulgaria, Israel, Turkey. Igor Grichanov |
