Andrena marginata??
Andre Jas
Hello,

I know Andrena marginata is extinct in Holland, but I found this one in Germany near Nordhorn (1. May 2008) in a piny environment, running on the sand.
I think antennae match, so does abdomen and eyes.
Am I right?

Without a photo is a diagnosis difficult. Antennae are not suited for Andrena ID, and A. marginata can be confused with other species or genera, depending of your level of bee knowledge. The species is really rare.

Ok, now I see some photos. You found a Sphecodes spec. (species ID not possible).

Hello Christian,

I see Sphecodes species have various forms of antennae? Is that correct? I'll put it down as Sphecodes sp.

Vielen Dank,

Hi Andr?,
what do you mean with antennae? I see three Sphecodes females (or the same specimen) with exact the same antennae. Males have different antennae, compared with females, but otherwise they are more or less similar. For species ID with a microscope, you may use some antennal characters both in Spheodes males as in Andrena.

Hi Christian,

It's indeed one and the same spec. What I meant is that I didn't know that male and females have different shaped antennae. Now the picture is clear to me.
Thanks a lotSmile
