Early fly
Eric Steckx
Hi,

Monday was the first sunny day in Belgium.
I didn't expect to meet flies.
This one was taking sun on a stone turned to the south, but I could take only one picture before it flies away.
Muscidae ?
Thank for your help

Aha, definitely Muscidae. I'd say Phaonia even if the traditional characters separating this genus from the nearby Helina are not visible. The latter is usually somewhat less robust - and I don't recall seeing Helina very early in the spring, Phaonia has some spring species.

I thought about same answer, but than decided to wait.
Comparing with:
http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=1302#post_5143
which is as a matter of fact Ph. subventum (= old Ph. variegata) I have a question. Is two colour (grey-yellow) scutellum and yellow cloud impression of basical part of wings diagnostic characters?
Thank you, Nikita

Thanks to you Kahis and Nikita,
I don't own specific documentation about Muscidae but the picture of Phaonia errans in this site
http://aramel.fre...5-41.shtml
shows a two colours scutellum, the yellow impression of the wings and moreover the well defined and brillant yellow stripes on the abdomen. However I don't know how it is specific.
