This 3 mm long juvenil spider was found in a garden with a larva. Could it be a Diptera larva? What genus and perhaps species are the spider? Photo from Kramfors Sweden 62,56N 17,47E 3 april 2009 Thanks for your help in advance Regards Kurt Holmqvist |

The larva is more likely to be an ichneumonid.

Ichneumonidae, subfamily Pimplinae, tribus Polysphinctini. The parasitic larvae usually stick across the front part of the opisthosoma, which matches well the situation that you depicted. The spider I saw (http://www.dipter...d_id=15117), however, bore a larva on its side. Regards, Sundew |

Hello! The spider is Steatoda bipunctata (Theridiidae). In 2007 I have once bred such a larva on a Tetragnatha obtusa to the wasp: http://insektenfo...eadid=8020 (Text in German).
