Found this 'thing' on a leaf, i thought it is some kind of snail..but it was suggested it's a diptera. January, Israel size about 1cm. The Diptera set: http://www.flickr...618993626/ |

it is a syrphidae for sure, and it looks a bit like Episyrphus balteatus, but I don't know if you have this in Israel. |

The pupae of Eupeodes and Paragus or any other genus doesn't look like this typical Episyrphus shape i.e. thick in front and abruptly becoming smaller towards the end, with a long "tail". Other genera have more or less the same thickness or become gradually smaller with only a short "tail". |
