Does anybody know, whether it is possible to rear any species of the group Bibionidae (or of one of its sister groups: Sciaroidea, Pachyneuridae) in the lab? I would like to study the eye development of Bibionidae, so I need access to larvae and pupae. |

Some sciarids are pests of cultivated mushrooms, so they should be easy... |

The larvae of European Bibionidae were studied by Skartveit (2002); their ecology is treated briefly. Maybe it can be helpful. |
