Could this especially hairy syrphid be Myathropa florea or is it impossible to say from this limited lateral view? Photographed feeding on ivy flowers 5.9.09 Wiltshire, southwest UK. NickU |

Yes, looks to have the characteristic pale bar on the thoracic dorsum. Tim |

OK, many thanks Tim. This fly only hung around briefly, and I didn't get a top shot, but it stood out as being different with the hairy look and band on the thorax. Nick |
