A Tephritid "picture wing" fly . Taken 19/09/06 South coast UK about 5mm body length Possibly Oxyna parietina Anyone confirm the ID? Thanks Brian V.

Hi Brian, Looks more like Tephritis to me. Maybe some species close to Tephritis tanaceti??? Maybe John can tell us. |

Hi Brian, I don't have any literature at hand now, but if I remember correctly, species of the genus Oxyna have only one frontal bristle, and your specimen has two (clearly visible in your pictures). Hi Martin, Tephritis praecox normally has no light spot in cell R2+3, before vein r-m, and normally has only one light spot along vein r-m in the top. This one has a light spot in cell R2+3 and at least 3, maybe 4 light spot along vein r-m. John |
